OTTAWA (CP) — Prime Minister Brian Mulroney
had more cabinet resignations to review and contemplate
than he planned on when he wrote his New Year's Day
message to Canadians.

“The New Year is traditionally a time for reviewing
the past and contemplating the future,” he said in the

Turner said the government's challenge in 1986 is to
improve the lot of all Canadians.

Mulroney said he hoped millions of Canadians will
visit the World Exposition in Vancouver this year and
noted that Canada and the world will observe 1986 as the
United Nations international year of peace.

“The recent Reagan-Gorbachev summit provides the

world with true hope that a durable peace may yet be
achieved,” he said.
