Groundwater Source Was Not Overlooked (continued from page Al) set, the company will be avail- able at the city’s request. Also last week, city council approved the dissolution of its water study project committee. Committee chairman Ald. Brian Kilpatrick moved it be dissolved on the grounds that it had fulfilled its original pur- pose, “The required letters pa- tent (for a regional water supply) has been received and the regional committee estab- lished to handle. the water matter,” he said. Reports this week that a newly-discovered ground water source near Selkirk College is being ignored in the regional water study are inaccurate, ac- cording to Mayor Audrey Moore, Moore said the well, re- cently mentioned in a ministry of environment letter to the Regional District of Central Kootenay, has been in opera- tion for two years. She said the letter, which listed the well’s capacity. as 1,545 gallons per minute with a total dropdown of slightly more than one foot, is just a routine submission of data. Moore said the city's water feasibility study by the en- gineering firm Kerr, Wood and * Leidal had taken the well into account. The well had been ruled out as a supply for the city because it would require piping the water across the Columbia ‘River, she said. “If there were any surplus capacity to be shared, it should be shared on the other side of the river at the golf course, the airport and Ootischenia,” she said, “And that is just con- jecture.” -Court, News In. provincial court Tues- day Ronald Allen Demosky » pleaded guilty to a charge of . driving with a blood alcoho! count over 08, He was fined $800 or in default 30 days in jail, .
