ROSSLAND EVENING RECORD, FEBRUARY 7, 1990. TAILORS AT WAR Removal of Union Card Causes Trouble in-Camp. THE SECRETARY STRUCK ‘Wilson Takes Away Hiteshue’s Oard and the Lptter’s Son, After Trying to Recover it, Leaves His Mark on Wilson's Face—All Parties in Court. The troubles of the tailors occu- pied the attention of Magistrate Boultbee on his reappesrance in court this morning after his recent illness, The trouble all arose out of the action of M. A. Wilson, the secre- tary of the tailors’ union, in taking away the union card of Charies * Hiteshue when the latter was mov- ing his shop. Hiteshue claimed that the card belonged to him, that he had signed an agreement to pay union wages and was living up to it. He says that Wilson told him that it was the rule to take away the card when a man was moving or going out of business and that he wag going to take the card away | from Heard’s shop. _An hour later Hiteshue gent one of his sons to Wilson to recover the card, but without success. Then he sent his wife, but she failed also. Finally, oa January 31 his other son Walter went to UHeard’s shop and demanded the card from Wil- son. He says the latter ‘‘gave him the laugh, stuck up his nose” and re- fused; It appeared as though hos- tilities would begin then, but some maneuvering occurred first. Wil- son went out with some others, fol- lowed at a short distance by Hite- shue. The story as told by young Hiteshue and by William’ Laurie is that Wilson and his friends went down an alley and that then Laurie told Hiteshue he was there. Hite- shue then went to find his brother Frank, saying he would return and meet Wilson in five minutes, but would not gu then, because there were three in Wilson's Party and he would not go alone. The two parties met in front of the Clifton saloon and then Walter Hiteshye and Wilson had a fight, in which it seems to be generally agreed that Hiteshue struck the first blow, though he claims that Wilson was just preparing to hit him. Hiteshue was having decidedly the best of it, giving Wilson a black eye, when Ofhcer Bradshaw appeared and ar- rested both combatants. Both were charged with disorder- -ly conduct and Wilson charged Hiteshue with assault, These cases were on trial this morning be- fore Mr. Boultbee but were ad- journed at 1 o'clock till tomorrow. ~ whe Eagles?
