Don't forget, stamp lovers, that the Stamp Club welcomes new members! The next meeting will be September 11. Further information about the David Thompson Stamp Club can be obtained by calling 365-7861 Trail Creek studio The Trail Creek Studio on Cedar Avenue in Trail is hosting a show called Eclectic Dimensions, until July 29. There is a real variety of art in this show from mixed media paper to clay. I was especially taken by a wall hanging called Inside Myself Hurts, done in clay under glaze. There are felt hangings by Pat Freshki, an acrylic scene from a hilltop by Mary Elliot and a simple attractive charcoal drawing of a seated nude. A watercolor in purple and pinks called Dance of the Hours was yet another attractive piece. These are just a few and I am sure you will have your own favorite. Kelowna Art Gallery If you are travelling to Kelowna in the next three weeks, visit the Kelowna Art Gallery and Museum to view an exhibition of art by Pippa Kaye. There are approximately 12 acrylic paintings of various sizes. Some are realism and some mosaic-like patterns and some a mixture of both depicting nature, animals and faces. Summer School Kaslo on the Lake Summer School of Arts takes place July 22 to August 27. Some of the subjects are language and visual arts, photography, Herbal and Nature studies as well as healing arts. There are music class- es in guitar, drum and percussion and much more. Children’s classes are also available in watercolor and puppetry. Call Margaret Pryce at 365-8058. Former building inspector for Castlegar, Phil Markin, recently attended the Building Officials of B.C. 40th annual conference and says the profession is moving towards a new standard of com- petence that will be recognized throughout the building industry. “The profession itself is becom- ing more and more complex,” said Markin, “In a response to that a number of things are taking place, including the level at which train- ing is happening.” The association is seeking provincial help to fund expanded educational programs, seek exchanges of information and expertise with other inspector groups in Canada and the U.S., and maintain a dialogue with other construction-related professions including architects and engineers. Markin, Director of Develop- ment Services for the City of Castlegar, says that the inspection industry takes much responsibility for building safety in this province. “Physical structures are chang- ing and there have to be positive changes to meet those new demands,” said i In the past 40 years, associa- tion membership has grown from 25 to more than 600. “Building officials have, and will continue to serve the public interest by advancing high con- sistent standards of building inspection through professional competence of its members,” fin- ished Markin.
