PK°PP~1ALKE The Rosslaod Warriors bad a pretty successful weekend. They received fantastic goaltending from young Mike McNally and also more than held their own in the hard-hitting deparbnent to take a wellearned 9-3 victory from the Spokane Braves on Friday night. Then went over to the East Kootenay to take a 7-41 win from Kimberley on Saturday. The Warriors and Braves came out bitting and stayed with it all the way on Friday each taking a lot of penalties but most of them were offsetting penalties. One would go into the box and in no time at all the other team would send in a partner. A couple of Warriors and at least one from the Braves were kicked out of the game for various breaches of the rules as the officials really clamped down on any possible dirty tactics. The crowd, while reasonably good, did not quite reach the numbers already set in the arena. This coming weekend the playing da~ are reversed as on Friday night the Warriors travel to Castlegar to meet the bigb-flying Rebels, and on Saturday they entertain the East Division leading Columbia Valley Rockies under former Warrior and Smoke Eater coach Tom Renney. Both games promise to be two real tests in for Rossland. On Saturday last, a group of Rossland dart enthusiasts entertained a group from Elkford and a very good series of contests were played. Held in the Rosslaod Legion and masterminded by Betty Ackerman, it turned out to be a pretty successful venture. Playing on the Rossland team were Mickey and Darrell Morrow, Llsa and Gerry Waite, Frank Harris, Roberta Dellch, and Betty Ackerman. On the Elkford side were Bud Clark, Owen Duffy, Rick Dean, Brian Ellis, Art Mercier, Allan Ackerman, and Mickey Gemon. In highscoring department, Gemon was one and Mickey Morrow the other and in high finish it was Bud Clark and Betty Ackerman. Darrell Morrow received a special award for a 180 single scoring three triple twenties, quite a feat at any time. Scorekeeper for the series was Wes Nadiger, whom I remember as a pretty fair lacrosse player before the game ceased to be played in the area. These kind of functions go a long way to keeping darts at the high pitch it holds at present. Down at the golf course meanwhile the · Rossland retirees are currently holding down the Job of caring for the wants of those wishing for a chance to play the course before the winter comes. As an assistant convenor of the job of procuring help to assist on the job, I must say I have been getting good cooperation. Everyone has done their part unless positively prohibitive commitments prevent them from helping. I want to thank Rich Watkinson, Angus Popplewell and Bart Dudley for digging in with help on any and all times I've needed it. All the guys on our club can tum their hand to any chores we have, it seems - taking fees, keeping books and serving the odd stint as bartender and what-have-you. By the way, a retirees' curling meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 28. I learned from Dave McKessock this morning that tbe Rossland course will be shut down after play cm Sunday evening, so all bad better get your best shots in before then. And now that it's World Series time I guess we have to make a prediction pretty easy, you '11 all say, when the one club has a two-game lead and play the next three at heme. But strange things happen in the baseball world. But strange things happen in the baseball world. A week ago I was seriously considering an Astro-Angel series but it was not to be and I also looked for the Mets to do something. However, it could be one of the quickest series in history. I'm not too hot on the record book but this one looks like it's almost over. The Mets bad it easy all season and now the errors, etc., are beginning to catch up with them. While we wait, I'll say 'Til next time, then! - •---.
