McKinnon, 32, was given the pat on the back for her _ touch on the green, taking the top prize for her outstanding golf play. She was presented with the award during a May 25 ceremony in Lahr, Germany. The award followed some spectacular play by the local golfer, who captured both the Canadian Forces Europe and Canadian Forces National Championships in 1991. It was the third straight year McKinnon took those titles. The daughter of Alex and Clarice McKinnon of Castle- gar, Janice McKinnon is a seven handicapper who was in- troduced to the game by her parents. ; “It was awful difficult when she was first starting out as a junior,” father Alex said. “There weren't a whole lot of women that were golfing at the time in the juniors. Soccer Association conducts referee clinic The British Columbia Soc- cer Association will hold its fall entry level referee’s clinic for aspiring soccer referees on the weekend of September 11 to 13. The successful completion of the clinic will qualify partic- ipants to register with the B.C. Soccer Referees’ Associa- tion as a Class 3 referee. The registration fee for the weekend clinic is $50, which includes the cost of a training package and all materials. This clinic is open to both men and women and will include classroom and on-field in- struction. Minimum age is 16 years. The clinic will be held at the B.C. Institute of Technology in Burnaby. The first session com- mences at 6:30 p.m., Friday, September 11. Sessions on Saturday and Sunday will be 9am. to5p.m. Pre-registration is neces- sary.
