210 a Co Tis the season for garage sales Martin Meyer RECYCLE ADVISORY GROUP It’s a hot summer day. You feel like doing some- thing different, but you can’t decide just what. Then the idea strikes you — why not organize a garage sale. Start out by selecting a day when you’d like to hold it. You could have it any day of the week, but most people sched- ule them for weekends. - After you've decided, put an ad in the paper. You may wish to include your friends and neighbors; especially if you don’t have a lot of items to sell. Perhaps they have things they would be glad to be rid of too. Next comes the sorting of all your items. You could literally start in your attic and work _ your way through your entire f3 Recycling and You house. For most people it’s ab- solutely amazing how many items haven’t been used for years and are no longer want- ed. Don’t be too concerned about whether people might or might not buy certain items. The fact is that people will buy almost anything if the price is right. Keep in mind that you've only got a day or two to sell the items, so the price has to be reasonable. Also consider that you don’t really want these items any more anyways, and that they might otherwise end up in the garbage. Set your items out on dis- play. Have a supply of small change and be prepared for the diehard bargain hunters who show up earlier than the ** scheduled start time. At the end of the day you'll have a few extra dollars and a lot less clutter around your home. You may wish to donate your unsold items to one of the many area thrift shops. Check with them first, though. Garage sales can be fun and interesting experiences anda great way to dispose of your ex- cess items.
