This young fellow has played about forty percent of the Warrior games this season, but I consider the Thrums lad .the classiest goalie in the league. In the defence department I take one Smokie and one Warrior. My choice of the Trail defenceman may come as a surprise because he has spent a lot of time away from the team this season with an injury to his leg, but Len Ircandia is a fine young defenceman who stands out on a team which has some real good ones the past 3 ye_a rs. AS I SEE IT WITH HARRY PEPPER The weekend came and went without our curling rink winning any prizes at the Castlegar Bonspiel. My team, Jack "Foxy " Wil son, skip, Ray Bann, third, Jimmy Bateman, second and yours truly, lead, won only one game out of 5 played, but we enjoyed it all the way . The supper was super and so was Bert Wien's music and thankfully the weather moderated enough to make it comfortable . The only rink we managed to edge was the Randy Moncrief foursome , all young boys from Montrose . Ed Harper, a fine hand at his third spot, Paul Plamondon and Ross Wilcox at second and lead, filled out a rink which , if they stay together, could be winners in the near future . Gene Dyson 's rink, composed of Gene at skip, Danny Feeney at third, George Beaudry, second and Julie Bilesky, lead, got second in "A" competition, being beaten in the final by the very fine-curling Ed Gee rink . Alfie Albo Jr. with brother Jim, Ivan Bell and Jimmy Driscoll, won the " B" competition beating_ out the Archambault rink from the host club. Well , last week I was supposed to give my choices for an all-star team from the West Kootenay J.unior Hockey League but too much came up and I didn't get around to it, so this week I will postpone my writeups on the young Warriors for one more week, to give my picks . On the first team I will have to go along with Lorne Kinakin of the Warriors for goalie . I lumped them into the second string up front. Despite a slow start, Jim Stuart is still my choice for the centre spot on this line. Strong and possessing a wicket shot, Jim does a lot of extra duty for Coach McLellan and does everything well. For my wingers I'm picking two players who can get goals and play almost any spot on the forward line. They are Billy Vulcano of Trail and Brian Watson of Nelson Oilers . Both boys are clever stickhandlers and don't miss many chances in front of goal. So, it's Castle, Regnier and Hamilton, Stuart, Vulcano and Watson for my number two lineup. You probably have some other ideas but that 's the way I see 'em, and you know where to find me if you want to discuss it. 3 My other defenceman is Rossland' s Jim Cotton. After being most improved on the Warriors last season, he has kept right on going this year and rates as good as any defenceman in the league. Up front my centre would have to be dynamic Don Szilagyi of the Smokies, a top playmaker all season and a fine back-checker. Don can make all the plays for you and has a great future in hockey if he wants it. On left wing I'd like to have hustling, tireless Doug Jones of the Warriors , the league's leading goal getter. Doug has really proved his worth this season. For my right winger I' m going to go with the smart youngster who plays that spot with authority for the Grand Forks Bruins , Pat McParlon. Though somewhat on the small side, Pat has improved as steadily as any player in the league, and right now is as good as any winger in sight. So there they are, Kinakin in goal, Ircandia and Cotton on defence and Szilagyi, Jones and McParlon on the front line . If I had a team these are the boys I'd like for my starting lineup. For my second team I'm going to stay with the Warriors second goalie, Tommy Castle. Like Kinakin, he has played about 40 percent of the Warrior games and can be as good as any first stringer on any given occasion. Morris Regnier and John Hamilton are a sturdy pair of defencemen for the Smokies, and will form the defence duo on the second team . As far as l can see they have done a good job for their team this season and they get my second place votes . My forwards may not always have played in the positions I've placed them in but in order lo get them on the team I have ~
