Becauses of possible changes to the face of Trail, the city council decided early in 1975 to prepare a record for ity of the way the city appears today. They invited Mr. Andrews to suggest ways this record could be made and concluded that a film would beat serve their needs.“ “Re-Elect 44 MOORE ; “FoR COUNCIL Mr. Andrews was com- missioned by. the city to make that film document. Later-in-the year, Mr. 3 Andrews and. Bob Tarplet of. West Kootenay: Film Produc- tions, a new Trail company, had with council ALDERMAN Vote [BILL BANHAM ‘He Gets Things Done! [x] and the Trail Historical Society. These discussions led to the decision on the part of council to underwrite the cost of a major film production which would tell the story of the development of Trail as well as record the appearance of the city today. The Trail Historical Society was asked to supervise the project. Shooting has begun on the. project, release date for the completed film being June, drews sald, “By using historical _ photos, and other archival materials, contemporary ‘cin-) * ema footage, narration, inter- views and. especially-prepared muusie, we intend to give an accurate representation of ‘Tralt's past and present.” Mr., Andrews. is well known in Trail and the Koote- nays. He taught at J. L. Crowe and Rossland: Secondary » schools before joining the facul- blstory course at Selkirk for many years and has encouraged the study of local Matory in schools. He has taught film-making at the college and with his students has previously pro- . duced two other films on local history, one on ‘Trail and one on logging in the Kootenays. Mr. Andrews stated, “So many people in the Kootenays generally and/in Trail look elsewhere ‘for their. historical themes, when right here there ~ is'life aplenty and there are thinga worth exploring. I hope the film will go a little way in focusing attention on the local, the immediate, on our own past. The Bronfman Family Foundation recognizes the need and value of this kind of production and their generous gift is very much appreciated. Mr. Andrews added that the elty council has “rendered. ‘splendid service to the City of Trail in sponsoring the pro- Sect.” ‘ CASTLEGAR NEWS PUBLISHED EVERY THURSDAY MORNING AT (THE CROGSROADS OF THE KOOTENAYS" .
