On June 10 and 11, a young
handicapped swimmer from
Castlegar, Cheryl Kristiansen,
competed in the Vancouver
swim meet and came home with
five gold medals, as well as
setting some new records.

This qualified her for the

Nationals in August of this
year.

The person responsible for
much of her coaching is a lovely
young lady by the name of
Joanne Carlson of Trail, who
attended the Vancouver com-
petition with Cheryl.

Joanne has given so much
of herself to help Cheryl along

Victorious.
In Tourney

Playmor Homes placed
first out of 10 teams partici-
pating in the seventh annual
men's softball tournament held
recently at South Slocan.

Playmor won all five
games, to take the first-place
trophy and $350 in cash.
Runner-up was Rex Hotel of
Trail, presented with $250; and
third-place finishers, MacDon-
ald Mason of Nelson, won $100.

Other teams participating
were Valley Combines, Valley
All-Stars, Tu-Dor Sports, Ge-
nelle Merchants, Trail Tire,
Kenco of Penticton and Pass
Creek.

Special awards went to
Fred Horcoff of Playmor
Homes for best pitcher and top
batter (with a 600 average).
Most valuable player award
was. presented to Ken Ilzelac of
Trail’s Rex Hotel.

The Christina Lake Junior
Open will be held this Satur-
day, with a tee-off time sched-
uled for 10 a.m.

This tournament will, as
major competition, count to-
wards the circuit points total
for 1978. ;

Entries will be accepted till
9:80 on Saturday.

Let's see a good turn-out of
Castlegar golfers to improve on
the team and individual stand-
ings. f
There will be prizes for low
gross and low net scores, plus
the usual circuit points trophies
for the different age classes and
winning team.

A Juniors afternoon will be
held every Thursday of the
week, starting at 4 p.m. Rob
Dunn and Curt Horning have a
plan to make those afternoons
interesting, with a variety of
competitions like two-man best-
ball, bingo-bongo-bango, and
low net, ete.

Also on the school holiday
agenda’ are some inter-club
matches with four-, six- and
eight-men teams.
