We took our regular walk
on Zuckerberg's Island on the
weekend and found that a

house. On the rock some
children, one presumes, had
made a large cross and two
hearts of colored stones.

In the centre of the cross
was a fresh water clam shell.
In the shell was a tiny bou-

centre of each heart, a bou-
quet only. One can only guess
for what reason, or any, this

has an artificial hand that
gives her, among other
things, a ferocious pinch.

Crystal's myoelectric hand
opens and closes on com-
mands from her brain, which

ulate electrodes inside the
socket connecting the artifi-
cial section of her arm to her
stump.

mer shower on the dead
leaves.

Birds are of such infinite
variety and adaptations that
they never cease to delight
the eye and excite the ima-
gination.

It is easier to destroy than
to build, but building lasts
longer.

a walkout Thursday af-
ternoon to protest lack of
heat in classrooms.

The protest blocked city
traffic for half an hour as

playing field to the Castle-
gar school board office on
Columbia Ave., and then
down Columbia to city hall.

City cracks down

Castlegar council Tuesday
took another step in its
crackdown on parking viola-
tors — this time when it ap-
proved hiring a fulltime traf-
fic officer.

In September council stif-
fened its parking fines from
just $3 to a maximum $35.
However, if violators pay the
fine within the first two days

the ticket is issued they pay ©

only $5; within threeeight
days they pay $10; and with-
in eight-14 days they pay $15.
After 14 days a $35 summons
is issued. :

Ald. Albert Calderbank, a
protective services commit-
tee member, said the latest
move doesn’t mean Castlegar
will be getting a new officer.
Instead, the present officer,
Shirley Vigue, will simply
increase her hours from
part-time to 35 hours a week,
Calderbank said.

He added Vigue's hours

are eligible for a 20 per cent
grant on work done.
