Will Durant asks a ques- tion and makes a statement concerning freedom. “Have we too much free- dom? Have we so long ridiculed authority in the family, discipline in educa- tion, rules in art, decency in conduct, and law in the state that our liberation has brought us close to chaos in the family and the school, in morals, arts, ideas, and gov- ernment? We forgot to make ourselves intelligent when we made ourselves free.” A society that advocates freedom continually comes up with a standard or bound- aries in which that freedom may be exercised. When one chooses to go beyond these established confines and breaks loose, it will only be a moment of time before other confines are discovered or i to maintain order and existence. Our universe has its laws. Violating them brings a con- sequence. We are most happy. healthy and alive when we confine our free- doms with and in cooperation with the laws that have been established. Our world operates under the laws of the universe. It is our responsibility to discover these laws and obey them. It is also our responsibility to discover new ventures and freedoms within the estab- lished laws. In order to assist people in true freedom, organizations are established with rules and regulations. When one, by free choice becomes a member of the organization, it is expected that the stan- dards agreed upon and set are to be obeyed. Freedom in a ftee country provides the freedom of choice to belong to a certain group of people or not to belong to a certain group of people. However, we need to be continually reminded that we will always belong to a group of people wherein are standards, guidelines, or con- duet of behavior. The first freedom to seek is the truth that frees and then to be associated with a group that desires to extend this truth to others. Jesus Christ states a mes- sage of this truth in the Gospel of John 14:6. “I am the way the truth and the life, no man cometh to the I may but climb the arch of time, And scan the endless sea. man is more than vertebrate, For he can dream and plan; By love created to create The world is wide; with God for guid Of immortality. ‘One choice alone must be my own — That God and I agree. Robert Lee Straus. Men addictive for some women TORONTO (CP) — Some women become as self-des- tructively obsessed with a series of unhappy partner- ships, Norwood says. They choose men who are And Robin Norwood says she’s been there. “I really have not found any appreciable differences between women who are ad- dicted to these relationships and alcoholics who are ad- dicted to alcohol,” says Nor- wood, author of Women Who Love Too Much: When You Keep Wishing and Hoping He'll Change. “The need to take that fix, to use that drug, to make that phone call, is identical.” Women who have been men they can fix; men who will need them; men they hope will lack the social skills to leave them. “In every relationship, I always chose someone whom I thought needed help,” says Norwood, now in her third marriage. “The fact he need- ed fixing was what was at- tractive to me — not what the person was, but what I could help him become.” OBSESSIONS DIFFER Men, by contrast, protect themselves from this prob- lem by becoming obsessed with something else — work, 1977 9.8 Merc c/w Tonk & Hose 650 NUARY CLEARANCE 1979 9.8 Merc “875. 6-H.P Longshatt $225 HENNE’S MARINA 2% Miles from Castlegar on Arrow Lakes 365-3219 -... sdowblower 229750 36°...» ARROW BUILDING Furniture for Sale Phone 399-4793 GUNS bought ¥ or trade.
