C: Owner-P Cc Weekly N pap: Subseription rate $1.50 per year or 15¢c per month by carrier . Authorized as Second Class Mail, Post Office Department, Ottawa EDITORIAL ‘As results of British Columbia’s comic opera election ‘unfold, there appears no doubt that Social Credit is coming into power. In- dications are that the Lieutenant-Governor will ask this party to ‘form a minority government around the first of the month. And with this, Castlegar should find itself in a fortuitous position; for the first time in it’s history tt should be represented by a cabinet minister from the village itself. Association This, of course, is just a guess; but it’s a guess founded on a fairly sound premise. R. E. Sommers was mentioned as a possibility for the Premier’s job in the province- -wide press; and it is a reas- onably safe assumption that the only reason his name wasn’t on the ballot was his refusal to have it placed there. Leaders of the Social Credit party have spoken highly of Bob’s pokitical capabilities. So if Mr. Sommers didn’t want or get the Premiership, cer- tainly he is going to get a cabinet job; and the big question that remains is which one? We have heard him mentioned for such port- folios as education, finance and others. But we would like to go on record as favoring him, for a dif- ferent ministry — that of Lands and Forests. We do not know his personal feelings in the matter, but believe it would be closest to his wishes. Bob has always had a deep regard for the woods, and knows them first hand. His years of part.time service with the For- estry department will have acquainted him with the mechanics of forest administration. And, if he is not conversant with the tremen- dous detail, and huge revenues involved in operation of the depart- ment, neither was Mr. Kenny when he started. And after all, there are deputy ministers to guide-him as he starts to learn the job. Yes we think Mr. Sommers would produce his greatest effort in working for the province as Minister of Lands and Forests; and we would recommend to his party that they be governed accordingly.
