Indeed, the hostile business-government fela- tionship that now exists is all too reminiscent of the situation that prevailed under the Barrett gov- emment and it is getting worse by the day. The reckless indifference your government has displayed to the legitimate concerns of B.C. bus ness leaders has made it imposs ble for them to support you at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. It would be extremely difficult for these indi- viduals to stand beside you in Europe when they know that you won't even sit down with them in an honest fashion in British Columbia. It is ren ble that you should Pica oceie ai to travel at their own expense to Davos to help you sell British there were many people whom had been trying to save Mr. Hick. ey's life for more than the 10 or 15 minutes in which Mr. Hamil ton spent in the terrible condi- tions. By the time Mr. Hamilton arrived there was already a doctor and a nurse on the scene attend- ing Mr. Hickey. The only thing: Mr. Hamilton's brother did to help in this situa- tion was panic and get hysterical causing more anxiety to an already stressful situation; I believe it was more luck than heroism on Kelly Hamilton's Columbia to international investors when you won't even meet with groups like the Van- couver Board of Trade Prior to you going to Davos, British Columbians would be much better served if you were to make a genuine attempt to address the crisis of confidence that your government has created in the business community. Instead, your government is aggravating investor fears with veiled threats about forthcoming ‘changes to the minimum wage, employment standards, employment equity and legislated pay equity. Such changes are neither necessary nor desirable at this time. They will only further complicate business- government working relationships and unduly escalate costs. In short, your government's behalf bec ¢ he was totally out of control. Note: If Mr, Hamilton was so experienced in autobody repairs why did it take him over an hour to decide maybe he should help. If he would have been there .a little earlier he would have seen the job the jaws of life did. Without them Mr. Hickey would have most cer- tainly died. I saw all the people - who did everything in their power to save ‘another life and think they all did an excellent job. S. Funk Kelowna, B.C. The only catch is, you have had to do months of training beforehand and while there, run a marathon. The Marathon is 4 km, its not that far. It would be like run. ning trom Castlegar to Nelson Are you still interested in going to trip to California? With a lag in the middle of the season the Selkirk College Cross-country running team is not scheduled to compete until late February, so Coach Derek Peregrym was looking for ways to keep his team training throughout the winter. Through fundraising they were able to arrange the trip to the Long Beach Marathon. Giving the subs more time on the floor during this tournament gave Closkey a good chance to mea- sure the development of his play- ers. “Both Jennifer Fayant and Rhonda Dawes showed good improvement over the weekend.” Although SHSS players are consistently being: named as All- Stars and MVP’s, some players on the team consistently play a solid game but don’t receive the recognition the others do. “Tamara Rezansoff is not a flashy player but always plays well. She deserves to be Tecog- nized,” Closkey said. The girls will be meeting up with L.V. Rogers tonight at Selkirk College, 7 p.m.. This weekend, they will need a total team effort when they will be in Trail for the J.L Crowe tourna- ment SHSS has not had a game against their Silver City rivals yet this year. The tournament takes place on Friday night and Saturday. California “It was something extra to fill the gap in our season,” Peregrym said. Of the eight runners, only two have competed in a marathon. “We have been doing lots of endurance training: Of the eight runners only two have ever com- peted in a race of this length,” Peregrym said Peregrym and Karl Scheider, will be looking at beating their personal best times in this race.
