Parks Canada is sponsor-
ing a commemorative ceremony
and unveiling of a historic
plaque at Lthe present site of the
e S. Moyie in Kasto 2 p.m: Aug.

In conjunction with this
ceremony, the Kootenay Lake

have past associations with the
S.S. Moyie during her active
yers, either as crew members,
Passengers, or otherwise.

It will be greatly appre-
ciated if you will give as much

coming gala event.

and celebrating B.C, Day. Cap-
tain James Cook will be present.

Proclamation.

Dr. Margaret Prang, B.C.

ada, will be mistress of cere-
monies. Members of the fed-
eral, provincial, and local gov-
ernments will be participating
in the ceremony and celebra-
tion.

Following the ceremony
refreshments will be served
and there will be musical enter-
tainment. The local Hang-
Gliders’ Club has agreed to
participate.

The S.S, Moyie was launch-
ed at Nelson in 1898 and plied
the waters of Kootenay Lake
for the next sixty years. The
S.S. Moyie was the last stern-
wheeler in service. In 1957 her
services came to an end. In
order to preserve this grand old
lady of the lake, the village of
Kaslo purchased her from the
Canadian Pacific Railway, set
her up on the beach of Kaslo
Bay, where she now provides a
beautiful museum in which
visitors can relive the past
glories of the old stern-wheel-
ers and the history of “the
Koot
