Two of the most common complaints holding seniors back and repeated over and over again were ) t's too expensive for the amount | eat; and, __ Wednesday, November 10, 1993 04/30/94 Wednesday, November 10, 1993 The Castle gar Sun b) there is too much food offered With these thoughts in mind the Committec has decided to approach all the local restau rants and eateries in Castlegar and Robson with the five following ideas and the hope that you will consider implementing them. 1. In the majority of towns and cities in this province a_person is now considered semor at age 60 (in some areas it is even 55) In this area we have over 2500 seniors of varying ages. We have many individuals aged 5 and over being forsed into early retirement through no choice of their own. We also have many seniors who travel extensively and are accustomed to age consideration, The Committee would like to request that you adopt as part of your practite the age requirement of 60 for senior menu price con: side rations. This would create conformity throughout our local food industry 2. The second request is that every menu offers senior portions. These reduced portions could be listed directly under the regular menu items or they could be placed under a separate Senior Menu. (The latter might be more significant but either would be appreci ated.) This provision would encourage seniors to go out more often and not feel so guilty about wasted food 3. The third request is health rel. you know the older we get the mc we have to be with certain foods many senior individuals in the community Senior’ ) Action Committee calls. for conformity dictary restrictions. It would be appr it you would consider supplying meal hii would allow these individuals an oppertunit to venture out Good for You” tood marked and we are sure local dietithur be glad to help you incorporate even two. We also have.a growing vegetarian poj lation which needs addressing 4. The fourth request is that lower price or percentage discounts be made available to seniors age 60 or more This committee will be making efforts to encourage seniors to go out more and your support of lowered prices will assist this endeavor 5. The fifth and final request is to assist u in meeting our goal of getting seniors out of their homes. It would be nice if lishment were to create senior day special and advertise them as such your estab Whenever seniors days are advertised at Safeway, Pharmasave, Woolco. etc. large numbers’ of seniors are drawn in. The same could be developed at your place of business Whatever your offer - every Tuesday, once a month, or every Wednesday between I} a.m and 2 p.m., etc.,- everybody likes a bargain en our large senior population. They also have the time to take advantage of it Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. It is our hope that together we will help to make Castlegar continue to grow and pros Ann Landers Syndicated Columnist Dear Ann Landers: | just read Canadian Quiz-Cross a letter in your Column that came from my daughter-in-law. The cat probably caught it and chased it under the fridge 15 There may be a dust bunny or two and a few dead bugs in the bedroom, but so what? I have bet ter things to do than mindless house cleaning. I prefer to read, make quilts, garden and play with my pets My daughter-in-law's house is quite different from mine.
