* ance. IS SHIPPING ACAIN First Carload From Evening Star Un- der Now Management. “BLOCKING OUT THE. ORE Good Ledge of Shipping Ore Oarrying Good Copper and Gold Values Opened From Two Points—Drifting on Both Ledges and Ship- ments to Continue.” The Evening Star has shipped its first carload of ore to the Northport smelter under the new management this week and is opening up the ore bodies in such a way as to ensure large regular shipments. The mine was originally opened by two main tunnels 50 feet apart which have been connected by an upraise and which have developed two ledges. No. 1 tunnel cut an iron and gold ledge at its portal and .was continued for 250 feet without cutting the second ledge. No. 2 cut the iron and gold ledge 142 feet from.its mouth and. direc- tly under the portal of No. 1. Being continued 11o feet south it cuta copper and gold ledge at a depth of 225 feet below the surface, on which an upraise was made to No. 1 tunnel. A crosscut was run west- ward by the new management trom No. 2 tunnel and again cut the same ledge 110 feet from where it was cut by the main tunnel. Drifts are now being run from the No. 2 tun- nel, northward on the copper and gold ledge and southward on the ‘jron and gold ledge. The ore shipped came from the copper-gold ledge, which is about 12 feet wide and has about five feet of ore of good shipping value. The iron-gold ledge carries lower values, but, if it should come up ‘to the fig- ures shown by some recent assays, would pay tg ship. It is believedto be identical with the Monte Christo ledge on the other side of the moun- tain, in which the values are impro- ving as the Evening Star ground is approached. As the afternoon. wore on the crowds gathered ‘in front of the committee rooms of the mayoralty candidates and almost blocked the sidewalks, guessing at the result and in some instances backing their guesses with money. The odds were in favor of Goodeve, Max Crow making a bet of 2 to ron him. One of the bets offered in the columns of the RECORD was taken up at. the Hoffman House, $100 being put up against $300 that Goodeve’s majority would be over 75. Work gave place to enthusi- asm and one of Goodeve’s sleighs drove down Columbia avenue with a load of newsboys yelling their young lungs out. In Ward 1, there was one spoiled ballots for the mayoralty and two spoiled ballots for alderman. ~ In ward 3 there were eight spoil- ed ballots, of which two were for mayor and six for alderman. ——_—_— Mauly Elected at Grand Forks (Special to the Record.) Robinson, candidate for alderman for the First ward, was disqualified by reason of the fact that he did not possess the neces- sary property qualifications, title to his holdings being vested in his as- signee. ' At the McPherson meeting last evening Mr. Robinson stated that he was qualified; that the Recorp had not investigated the matter. With this we beg to differ, and to state that, fo the contrary notwith- standing, the Recorp is correct in its assertion, Mr. Robinson may have settled with -his creditors on the basis of 100 cents on the doilar; . on that score there is no occasion for-argument. . The fact remains, however, that the assignment has not, yet been released, and the dis- charge has not been registered at the land registry office, and Mr. Robinson cannot stand for the rea- son that the property on which he qualified is not in his name. Even had the, assignment been discharged last month, the election law re- quires that he must be the regis- tered owner of property for six months prior to his nomination. 4g. D.
