-- I wil Trail Times-Friday: January 28, 1983- The five teams representing the Rossland Legion at the West Kootenay Zone Bonspiel held in Nalrusp over the weekend made a creditable showing but only one, the Angus Popplewell rink, made a first-place finish against some pretty good competition. Twenty-three rinks were entered and play began at 6 p.m. on Friday and wowid up with 3 p.m. games on Swiday. Angus' rink won the "C" event in seniors competition against the Rourke rink from Castlegar. Angus had Russ Broughton as third, Gil Besso and Cleve Cowland on the front end and in the only game I saw them play they looked to be full value for their victory. Gil Lemoel's rink from the Trail club won the seniors championship game and along with the Ferguson rink from the host club, which won the regulars top spot, - . ,..,. llary 1 "'---------~------------ will go on to contest for provincial laurels. Bill Leaman's foursome went to the fours of the seniors "C" before losing to Popplewell. The George Beaudry foursome was taken out in the semis of the clµunpionship rowid, losing to the John Bowles rink from Nelson and the Jim Schuck rink which played in the regular's competition failed to make it after a spirited bid. . Our rink was eliminated after games against the Alec Turner rink from the SalmoFruitvale area, Tim Timbrell's foursome from Trail and the Leaman crew. Before leaving this particular topic I must say how much we all appreciated the way we were made to feel welcome up at Nakusp. After having been there on several previous occasions we have come to look for their particular brand of hospitality and we were certainly not be be disappointed. Earle Moffat, Lois Norman and all the good people of the lakeshore town pulled out all the stops, free treats, a wonderful banquet and Dick Wayling's music made our off-ice time a real pleasure. I would like to add a word here to thank the boys who must have been up pretty early to ready the pancake breakfast; convener Bert Steenhoff and his merry group, Bert Gardiner, Larry Dupuis and Harry Mayson. It was really great, you guys! Thanks again, to all of you people!
