She was a victim of molestation as achild and had an abortion as a teenager. Only recently she had learned her husband was hav- ing an affair with one of her friends. Tears welled up in Beth’s Pulpit & Pew New Life Assembly Pastor Rankin MCGOUGAN eyes as she asked, “What do I do? I’m so hurt. My husband has admitted his affair. He’s told me we have to forget about it and go on for the sake of his ministry.” Beth trembled slightly, then added, “He’s re- fused to answer any of my quest ns be- cause he says forgiveness means not being con- cerned about the details. ‘I don't feel like I have anyone to talk to and I cant get over some of the feelings I’m having. “Jan, what you said today made sense. I know I need to go through this healing process if Iam going t be free.” Like many of us, Beth assumed forgiveness means covering the pain and pretending it doesn’t exist. The previous quote came from a book entitled A Door of Hope by Jan Frank. In this book and another entitled When Victims Marry which was co-authored by Frank and her husband Don, they deal very openly with the agony and the difficulties faced by those who struggle with victimization in their past. : It is our privilege to have the Franks coming to our community. Their seminar of hope is a compassionate look at the problems people face as a result of abusive and dys- functional childhoods. The Franks have first-hand experience working through these difficulties. Their sem- inar offers hope to the hurting and inspires both men and women to break the patterns that result in marital breakdown through ex- amining biblical principles of building strong homes and relatidnships. It’s my desire as a pastor in our community that this seminar will be used of God to help break the bondage of past pain that so many in our community struggle with.
