stone,” Brandon says. “It's not all alike. Most white stone
is limestone, but only certain limestone is highly
crystallized marble. Look for real marble chips like
Durascape with its angular shape that reflects sunlight and
sparkles with morning dew.”

Stone provides an aesthetic alternative to paving
materials, particularly on terrace paths and other heavily
traveled woodlands areas where plants are too fragile to
serve underfoot. “A decorative stone’ is colorful,
comparatively inexpensive and can be installed by the
home-owner. In addition, it's pliant underfoot, drains well,
and won't crack or weather like concrete,” Brandon says.

Remember, coverage depends on the depth of the
surface area, as well as the size and shape of the
particular stone. Homeowners can cover a 10-square-foot
area, 2 inches deep with three 50-pound-bags of three
eighth-inch stone will cover a 25-square-foot area that is 2
inches deep.

“You can pick a colour and texture to suit your
needs and, unlike concrete or macadam, install the
stone at your leisure,” Brandon adds. “The bottom
line is that a decorative stone gives the do-it-
yourselfer the greatest versatility in improving the
appearance of his or her property.”
