Trudeau urges
cooperation

OTTAWA (CP) — Prime
Minister Trudeau used his
July 1 message to urge Can-
adians to co-operate in the
battle against inflation and
high unemployment.

The celebrations of Can-
ada’s 116th birthday can help
bring Canadians closer to-
gether and “strengthen our.
resolve to face (the) future
with unity and confidence,”
Trudeau said in a statement
Tuesday.

“Even when times are

tough... it is good to cel-
ebrate because by doing so
we come closer together in
our appreciation of each
other.”
_ That closeness and co-
operation can-be applied to
the present economic prob-
lems, he said.

“In the past, the key to
Canadian success, especially
in economic affairs, has been
a spirit of cooperation and

essential to success. We will
all benefit if we win that
struggle, so it is in our com-
mon interest to strive to-
gether.”

Inflation hit 11.8 per cent
in May and unemployment
that month was a record 1.2
million people.

On Monday, the federal
government announced strict
limits on public service pay
and called on Canadians to
keep wage increases to half
the rate of inflation in an ef-
fort to ease the recession.

Trudeau also. reminded
Canadians that despite curr-
ent economic hardship, “Can-
ada remains, in the eyes of
people of other countries, a
land of extraordinary peace,
stability and opportunity.

the earth will have as many
reasons for gratitude, hope

Diana is the Greek goddess represented as the moon. If,
we try to follow her progress into full glory this month, we
will be cheated. On July 5, from approximately 9:30 p.m.
until just after midnight, when we would expect to see
Diana's full ‘shining face, she will appear only as a subdued
silhouette. On this evening we will experience a complete
lunar eclipse.

‘The “light of the moon" is actually the light of the sun
reflecting off of the moon. A lunar eclipse will occur when
the earth is in a direct line between the sun and the moon.
As a result the earth will cast its shadow upon the moon,

creating a moonless night for a select geographical area. -

This curious circumstance only happens, on the average, two
to three times per year. Creston, B.C. is lucky enough to be
involved in the event this time.

Moonless nights are best for stargazing because’ the
moon's bright light doesn’t wash out the stars. Since July's
warm nights make stargazing a pleasure, we at the Creston
Valley Wildlife Interpretation Centre could not resist the
opportunity to do an astronomy program on the evening of
July 5. I invite you all to join us at 9:15 p.m., in Summit
Creek Campground, as we learn about the legends behind
the stars, during Diana’s blushing moment,
