The changes will be the same.as those im a draft press release leaked to Don Boudria last week, with the removal of the tax from books as ‘‘a bit of good news before Christmas,”” the Ontario MP said Monday. Boudria said a man called him Monday night with details of a revamped release that would include changes affecting tourism, lease payments, lottery tickets and the taxi industry. Those are the areas listed for changes im last week’s leaked release. ““We had a long conversation, and the man who called was speaking in great detail about the last release and the new one. I believe he knows what he’s talking about. ““They’re putting the final touches on it now and they will exempt books from the GST,”” Boudria said im a telephone interview. Earlier Monday, Wilson said bureaucrats are working on changes to the seven per cent tax. ““We’re making changes now, we'll make changes after Jan. 1. We make changes in the income tax every year,”” he said. In the draft release last week, Wilson was quoted as saying the changes were intended to “‘streamline the operation of the GST."" Boudria said the content of the announcement Wednesday will be the same as last week's, with the ad- dition of the change to books, which are taxable under the current legislation. “They're just changing it around a bit so they can say the one last week was a draft and didn’t mean anything.” The tax bill received royal assent MOnday. As well as the removal of the tax on books, Boudria said the release will repeat the changes listed earlier, namely: — Reduction of the amount of tax tourists need to pay before they are able to claim a rebate on the tax to $7 from $20. — Changes to make hotel rooms booked outside of Canada tax-free for foreign tourists without them having to fill out rebate forms. — Amendments that would sim- plify the sale of lottery tickets so that the tax is paid directly from the lot- tery corporation, rather than charged and collected at the retail level. — Changes to ensure all regulated taxi fares are taxable under the GST. & 1 Tt continued from front poge Telep said the threats are “I just take it as somebody over-reacting to an emotional issue,”” she said.
