Marty Carew and Todd Archambault lead the way each shooting 71, Todd Bondaroff shot 75, and Jody Carew stoked his way to a 78. Castlegar’s golfers took to the tee with players from J.L Crowe, L.V. Rogers, and Nakusp Sec- ondary School . In other action the SHSS golf team went on a weekend cross- border shopping trip and on their return were forced to declare their prize—a third place finish. Although the conditions were less than desigable at the’ Colville Invitational High School Golf Tournament in Washington, the Stanley Humphries team put in a good performance. “It was very windy and very wet, which led to some high scores, The boys had trouble with the fast greens, which took them by surprise,” Sly said. The field-was made up of 14 teams, most of which were from U.S. schools. Each team was made up of five players and the top four scores counted towards the team total, The SHSS team total of 320 placed them behind Mead Secondary School from Spokane, who took first with their tedm total of 297 and Clarkston Secondary in Idaho, tallied up their score of 315, which earned them second in the tourney. Todd Bondaroff led the SHSS squad with a score of 77,.Jody Carew shot 78, Marty Carew took 81 shots to finish the course, Todd Archambault stroked his way to an 83 and Devon Cheveldaeff shot 86. There was a combination of fac- tors, which when added together, made the going tough. A shotgun start, backlogged players on each tee and ‘a wet course and strong winds were all factors contributing to the challenge for players. . “The going was slow, making it hard for the young players to keep their concentration levels up,” Sly In action last week, the boys showed their local domination in high school golf by snowing the competition at the Nakusp golf course last Wednesday “We won by miles,” Sly said. Marty Carew and Todd Archambault lead the SHSS crew with 71; Jody Carew took 75 strokes to complete the course and Todd Bondaroff shot 77. “There was nobody else on the other teams who shot below 80,” Sly said. Golfers from J.L Crowe, L.V. ers and the top four scores from each team were added together to achieve a team total. Look Like A Million! In their season opener against the Rossland Soccer Club the previous weekend, the Dynamo had another comeback win, earning them- selves a 5-2 victory Lui Costa scored three goals in the triumph and they also had a strong defensive perfor- mance from Dale Fitchett. “With the two come-from- behind victories the team has developed a strong sense of character and a chemisiry for goal scoring,” Antignani said This season the club started indoor practices in February, which has resulted in a “very disciplined team this year,” according to Antignani One of the team’s goals for this season is to earn the right to represent the Kootenays in the B.C. In order to qualify for the games, the Dynamo must win the qualifying tournament which will be held June 6. “There will be up to eight teams competing for the one spot in the Summer Games for the East’ and West Koote- nays,” Antignani said The next action for the Castlegar Dynamo will be Sunday, May 16, at 2 p.m. at the Soccer field beside the Castlegar and District Com- munity Complex Community sporting rolling in the coin Sun Sports Community recreation in British Columbia is the latest group to reap the benefits of the Provincial Governments windfall to sports organiza- tions An 18 per cent increase in funding, brings the total received by community recreation pro- grams up to $1.3 million “The increased community funding will help cover the costs of youth programs, train- ing clinics and other recre- ational opportunities in locations where they have not been available previously,” said Recreation Minister Robin Blencoe This increase includes a doubling of provincial assis tance available to programs in CASTLEGAR REBELS ~~ | EMERGENCY GENERAL MEETING ¢ Monday, May 10 7:00 pm - ~ Castlegar Arena Complex Urgently need President & Treasurer nominees & Booster Club volunteers Please come out & volunteer.
