Captain Cc. H. Thompeon hhas received hid commission from Governor Rogers as one of the commissioners from this state to the world’s {air to be held at Paris in 1900, says the Spokesman-Review. The other two commissioners from this state are’C. P. Ferry, of Tacoma, and Dr. D, C. Newman, of Spokane. “It is intended,” said Captgin Thomp- son lastevening, ‘that (his state prepare a splendid exhibit for the fair, no small portion of which exhibit should be minerals. “The Northwest Mining Association, realizing this fact, took the initiative in the matter, and has written to the gov- ernors of all the northweetern mining states asking that suitable steps be taken to have the mineral wealth of the north- western mining states asking that auit- able steps be taken to have the mineral wealth of the nortwestein country suit- ably represented at Paris. President Dennis of the assoriation, who is now in Chicago, has written that he hag received from several of the governors letters in which the idea is commended and en thusiastic support promised, “It will be my endeavor to see that the resources of this state are givena suitable representation and that the mineral display, especially, be all that it. should. “Comparatively few people, even in our own state, are aware of the real mineral wealth ot Washington. We have a year and a half to work in to col- lect the samples, and with the co-opera- tion of the nine owners we should get up an exhibit that will surprise many. The opportunity to bring our mines be- fore the world in a manner that will be worth many thousands of dollars is presented by this fair. We should not neglect to avail ourselves of that oppor- tunity.” Held for Trial.
