Open to the public, the 100- acre reserve is being devel- oped cooperatively by representatives of GM of Canada and area environ- mentalists, with the support RESERVE of local government and a great deal of enthusiasm from citizens, including employees, company retirees, youth groups. ser- vice clubs and schools, among many others. They have joined in clean-up pro- jects and have helped develop over three miles of walking trails, as well as beginning a longterm refor- estation program. Plans transforming areas of the site into forest zones and shrub thickets to serve as habitats for resident and migrant birds and mammals. with an environment suitable for nesting and breeding. in only a relatively short period there have already been documented sightings of 21 species of mammals and 265 of birds on the Reserve. which. also plays host to a wide variety of other small animal life among the groundcover, wildflowers. shrubs and trees. Respecting the natural beauty and integrity of the area was at the forefront of establishing The McLoughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve adjacent to a build- ing designed for people — a place for people and wildlife to co-exist in harmony with the environment. Industry, govemment and the public, working together, have formed a strong partnership to create a better environ- ment — for recreation, work and Canadian wildlife. Feeding baby on the go Many restaurants have baby food available. Hi is to pack baby's food for the trip. R serving them at room temperature is okay too. Some airlines may have baby food or bottles available; others will be happy to heat those you supply. Leam the airline's policy in this regard when making reservations. The baby's food, plastic spoons for feeding, and bibs should be packed together for convenience at mealtime. For safety's sake, don't attempt to keep leftovers from one feeding to the next. It is best to destroy any food not eaten at a meal. Only one day's formula should be prepared at a time. The first day's requirements can be pre- pared at home just before leaving, chilled and carried in a reliable cooler. Restaurants and air- lines are usually more than happy to warm a bottle of formula for you. You may want to consider ready-to-use formula. A 32-ounce can provides a day's requirement for an age baby and requires no p ion — just shake, open and pour. Disposable nursers and pre-: -sterilized nipples that have been kept in an airtight container are ideal for use with ready-to- use formula. For warming a reusable bottle in the car, the Gerber Automobile Bottle Warmer is ideal. The warmer plugs into a 12-volt cigarette lighter socket. It is not ded that disposable bottles be placed in an automobile bottle warmer. For breast-fed babies and those not able to hold there bottle, the automobile must be stopped while the child is out of the car restraint system for feeding. Periodic stops are important when trav- eling by auto, and this affords a perfect opportunity! Keep some finger foods appropriate for the baby's age handy. Raisins, O-shaped cereal, and Ger- ber Animal-shaped Cookies, Arrowroot Cookies or Zwieback Toast are ideal. And don't forget liq- uids.
