This session is sponsored in-conjunetion with the West Kootenay Economic Coordinating Group As an active network partner in the c] team. improve the West Kootenay economy, sponsorship by the Economic Coor dinating Group enables individuals within Community Futures zones to partipate in the program for alow $150 tuition fee, a news release from the WKEDC says. This amounts to a $500 saving over the regular tuition charged for this program. Community Futures zones include the communities boun- ded by Nakusp on the north, Rossland: Trail and Salmo-Creston. People receiving self-employment incentive grants from Canada Em ployment are encouraged to develop their small business skills by taking this program, the release says. Home based business operators who desire business skills upgrading have this op- portunity to enhance their knowledge of business procedures. Those receiving UIC benefits may apply for approval to take this course without disrupting their benefit payments, ac- cording to the release. The program format is unique in Western Canada as it requires total in- volvement in learning the skills that are required to operate a business, the _release delivered over two weeks and culminates with the development of an individualized business plan. The sub- jects covered include management, marketing, human resources, produc- tion, financial management and com- puters. Topics are supported by writ- ten materials, guest speakers, and well- informed instructors, the release says. A certificate is granted upon com- pletion of the program. Statistics in- dicte those who complete small business training courses can improve their.chances of success up to 80 per cent, the release says.
