When the boys started off they were a little queasy from the pressure according to Coach John Ritchie, It took the first two games to wear out of the Rockers systém. “We had a low shooting per- centage, our shooting really hurt us. After the first two games we came out of our shell and started to play to our potential,” Ritchie said. SHSS came out of the tourney with a record of one win and three losses. Opening the tourney with a game against Ladysmith from Courtenay, the Senior boys were handed a 71-54 loss. Marcel Dusseault and Ryan Vatkin led the way on the scoreboard for the Rockers with 15 and 14 points Frespectively. Vatkin was voted as the game’s MVP. “We did not play well, the guys were nervous,” Ritchie said One thing about the boys per formance in their opening game, cording to Ritchie; was that Ladysmith made it to the final and other than their last game, the Rockers’ were the team that had the game with the lowest point Spread against Ladysmith Coming off the opening loss, the Rockers were handed a second loss at the hands of South Okan gan Secondary School, 66-54. Although their first win at the tourney was still eluding the team, they changed that with a 70-64 win over Charles Hayes High School, from Prince Rupert Vatkin continued his leading role onthe offensive side of the game netting 23 points in the win. The Rockers lost their final game of the tournament to Robron Secondary School from Campbell River, 81-80, a real squeaker. Ryan Vatkin was the leading scorer for the Rockers with 21 points. Dusseault was voted player of the game and he netted 20 points for the Rockers “That (the Robron game) was a tight one...we missed a lot of lay.
