OurPEOPLE Sunfest set to sizzle Glen Freeman NEWS REPORTER It’s summer in the city, and the Castlegar Sunfest Com- mittee is gearing up for the biggest warm-weather celeb- ration Castlegar has ever seen. “This festival seems to: get bigger every year it goes on,” said committee president Derm Jackman. “And _ this exception.” In fact, an estimated 10,000 people will take part in this year’s bash. The 1992 Sunfest is sure to year is no committee’s new philosophy. “One thing we are trying to do with the festival this year is we're trying to get it back to the basic idea of what it’s for,” Jackman said. “It’s for all the people in this community: and it’s for promoting our area.” 5 Mission accomplished on both counts. There are dozens of family events this year, from a giant outdoor dance to a frog jumping championship, and they will all be covered by Pyman, a company which supplies the - Turner Sports Network with most of their video clips. Jackman says this festival can be nothing but successful, because his committee has worked so hard. “I have no idea how many __- man-hours they’ve put into this, but I can say they’ve done a bang up job.” But Jackman said if anyone would like to volunteer, they can call him at 365-3127.
