The fact that the city iscontemplating
putting in a lighting plant of its own is
not a sufficient reason for the city coun-
cilrefusing to grant a compauy the
privilege of establishing a gas plant in
Rossland. In the first place the people
are entitled to competition, even with

. the municipality. Then many. prefer
gas to electric light. There is also much
use gas can be put to’ that no othe.
heating process will take ite place. it
any one is willing to put ina gas plant
in Rossland without # francnise they
should be permitted to’ do 80, and the
city, conncil will make a grave mistake
in refusing the privilege.
