On and after December J, The RossLanp Ev- ExiNG REconp will be delivered to any address in the United States or Canada for$5 a year, and delivered toany part of the city for 15 cents a week, or 50 cents a month THE SNOW ON THE ROOF, There is about 20 inches of snow and in many instances it is not being re- moved from the roofs of houses when there is greet danger of it sliding off on- to smaller’ structures and might entail Joes of life also. The owner is liable and should see to it that his roof is cleaned when there iga chance of others being injured. Roseland snow weighs about 12 pounds to the square foot, Iwenty inches op the ordinary roof will contain 2,160 feet, covered with 20 inches of anow it will have to sustain a weight of 43,200 pounds, It can readily be seen that the small houses which are under the eaves of the large ones are in danger of being crushed. Houses not strongly built will themeelves be in danger of being crush- ed. It is time now for those who it concerns to be looking after their own safety and the eafety of their neighbors below. There would be no harm in the police calling the attention of the occu- pants of such places to the danger. —_—___ PRESS OPPOSED. The Colonist of a late date, prints an syp of the provincial press on the question that has been lately raieed, whether a law should be passed at the next session of the legiela- ture, excluding aliens from the privil- ege of securing and working placer mines in the province. The Colonist prints in order, exprestions on the subject,(which it enterprieingly solicited), irom its own columns, the Wellington Enterprise, Rossland Miner, New Denver Ledge, Kootenay Mai!, Westminster Columbian, Nanaimo Reveiw, Rossland Recorp and Kamloops Standard—nine in all. Of these four, the Colomst, Enterp-ise, Review and the Standard, favor the ex- clusion of aliens in thie particular, though the Standard admits that the principal is not right; four, the Miner, Ledge Mail, and the Columbian, oppose the exclusion proposal; and one, the Ress- land Recorp practically opposes it, hold- ing that Americans ought not to be ex- cluded. —_———— The ‘contempt’ in which Mr. De Lashmutt says the Spokane brokers hold the Recorp will nct probably in- fluence them to request us to quit pub- lishing the quotations of Republic etocke or saying nice things about reservation mining property, a habit this paper has been following for about four years. The express chargeson small pack- ages between Rogsland and Spokane are simply outrageous. Twenty-five cents ia charged for a single pound, and 50 cents for four pounds. “The rate for 50 pounds and over is not so bad, being 214 centsa pound. Rossland and Spokane have a kick coming, and weare willing to do our end of it,so commence with this protest. Crow’s Nest Excursion. District Freight and Passenger Agent F. W. Peters, of Neleon, telegraped the Recorp Saturday evening that the excursion was billed to leave Nelson on Wednegeday, December 7, and all those who are going from Rossland will leave on Tucsday, December 6, 60 If you are not satisfied with yourleans dry work try Laundry. Mr. Hayes brings a letter from Rich- ard H. Parkinson, to a Rossland broker, jn which he says: “‘-Mr. Hayes is visit- ing Rosslan 1 with a view of placing sev- eral properties, in which heandI are interested in Camp Hea:ley. Thigisa new camp, and its vast hodica of ore, from which very high assays are obtain- ed, running from §00 to $250 in gold, have made ita scene of great excite- ment. An American company has jast |? bonded the Bull Dog, Nickel Plate, Cop- per Field and Copper Cleft for $50,000, ad will goto work at once ta develop them, In the meantime an agent of the company, Mr. Rodgers, is getting op- tions on other claims.” Mr. Hayes ie stopping atthe War Eagle hotel, and has samples of ore from the camp with him.
