- Mother-Daughter Guiding Banquet Held in Robson

On Feb. 24 4 Mother and
Daughter Banquet was held at
the Robson Hall with 106
people present.

‘The program consisted of a
parade of colors; a welcoming
address by Mrs, Sharon Hus-
ton; anda toast to the Queen by
Brenda Barrass,

A dinner followed, at
which Grace was said by Mrs.
R, Bro, After dinner a toast to
the founder was presented by
Eileen O'Neail.

Renita Salekin presented a
toast to the mothers followed
by a response by Mrs.
Porter. A toast to the Guiders
was given by Bernice Holuboff,
with a response by Mrs. R. Bro,

gave a short resume on "Guid-
ing on the Move”. Following
Mrs. Hill's talk was a presenta-

lowed by badge presentations

group as well as being on the
B.C. planning committee for
“Guiding on the Move” for the
Kootenay area, which covers
Grand Forks, Radium, Spar-
wood and all'areas in between.

were presented to Mrs. Mai
garet.Bro on behalf of the
Brownies by Shauna Zoobkoff
from the Guides by Laurie
Robertson and Nadine Greg-
ory, and from the Rangers by
Deb Robertson. Mrs, Bro is
division commissioner of Twin
Rivers Division and has been
with this division for three
years,

Mrs. Ivy Saltkin, who has
been with the Robson parent
group for 12 years—seven of
these years as president—was
presented with a Certificate of
Appreciation and a gift for
exceptional services in support
of the Girl Guides of Canada.

Agricultural Land Reserve
Removal Favored by Minister

Development Gary Lauk will
recommend removal of the
agricultural land reserve on the
Columbia Gardens industrial
park near Trail, :

Mr. Lauk told a dinner
meeting of the Kootenay Indus-
trial Development Association
at Trail, Friday, that he found
KIDA's and Rossland-Trail
MLA Chris D'Arcy’s argu-
ments compelling for removal
of the freeze in the interests of
orderly economic growth, par-
ticularly after inspecting the
park site himself,

meeting of about 50 KIDA,
civic and industrial officials
after a day touring KIDA
Country with the association's
president,’ Elon Domeij, and
commissioner “Austin Fraser:

The group visited the
Carefree trailer and canopy
plant and the Quadra chain saw
plant,’ both KIDA-sponsared,
and Cominco's Trail operations.

Mr. Lauk was introduced
by MLA Chris D'Arcy who
stressed KIDA’s regional scope
and uniqueness in B.C.

He recommended it to Mr.
Lauk who, he said, “was the
first real minister of industrial
development in the province's
history.”

Me. Lauk also spoke of his
disappointment with the fed-
eral DREE program for re-
gional economic expansion
which he said, had become a
token sop for the Western and
Maritime provinces while con-
centrating its efforts in Central
Canada.

‘Thé minister said that
when he assumed his portfolio,
the department could supply no
economic information and re-
source statistics on which to
base development policy. -

“We now have 80 profes:
sionals developing information
and planning,” he said.

Indicating that his minis-
try will have: completed ‘a
Kootenay regional study by
May, Mr. Lauk said that the
next step would be to invite
public comment on the direc-
tion residents wished their

ecoiomic growth.
