It always starts out as all work and
no play but not this year. The fun
started with a visit from the CPR train
and its crew. Children toured the
engine room, caboose and the parents
even got to blow the whistle. Before
the train pulled out, the engineer han-
ded out official CPR canned drinking
water, pencils and coloring books.

April arrived and plans were in
motion to begin major playground
renovations with the help of Slocan
Forest Products and parent volun-
teers.

work and fun continued. In closing
the yearly task of fundraising, Ap-
pledale Daycare held an official 18th
year celebration. The theme was a
Children’s Concert and was a tribute
in memory of Jim Henson of the
Muppets who died earlier this year.
The concert was hosted by Mark Rit-
chie, recreation coordinator of the
Slocan Valley Recreation Com-
mission. The afternoon was filled
with fun ranging from story telling,
facepainting and games. There was
a magic show, music from the Winlaw
School Band and the Western
Swingers. A big thanks for the great
display from the Winlaw Fire Depar-
tment.

There are so many supporters of
the daycare, not only from the paren-

about the last 18 years, organizers
decided to celebrate the daycare’s
18th year of operation.

At the dance, all previous alumni
were honored with yellow ribbons,
since the theme was also Bring on the
Sun dance. The No Booze Boogie was
to raise funds, and fun was raised.
The dance was a success. People got
to enjoy the sounds of No Excuse
and be marvelled by the Northern
Lights.
