Bennett marks decade in power

rid of 11,000 civil servants. No one éxpected Bennett's
government to cut 26 programs ranging from the human
rights commission to dental care, legal aid, motor vehicle
testing and the rentalsman.

After a flurry of legislation, 200, 600 civil servants found
themselves in a position where they could be fired without
cause. Controls were put on their wages.

Within two weeks, the union had an agreement. On the
same day, Solidarity began to fall apart after Jack Munro,
president of the International Woodworkers of America,
made an agreement with Bennett that didn’t include many of
the coalition's demands.

positive premier who says restraint has. been replaced by

province can’t keep up with the demand, that unemployment
is among the highest in the country at 14 per cent, and that
