If the ¢om- pany selle ita property at the price agreed upon the value will be reduced to $6 par share. . There appeared in the columns of the Recorp last evening an apparently in- offensive item to the effect that Fred Ridout had ‘accompanied C. H. Mack- intosh to England as his secretary and valet. 8. George Ridout, became very much enraged over the item, and did not wait until he got over it before visit- ing the Recorp office. af Aa it happened the editor of th’ paper had not seen the item, and very politely informed Mr. Ridout that if there had been a mistake made the REcorp would take pleasure in correcting. it. isfied with thie, he continued to storm and command and demand, and finally left the office with a slam, bang and out at first base. He acknowledged that the reporter could have no malice or per- sonal reacon for misrepresenting him, as he did not know him. Mr. Ridout should know that a daily newspaper cannot stop to get affidavite for everything it publishes, and ehould have held his temper and been content with an explanation, such as he was en- titled to. A newspaper must take some- body’s word for some things it prints, and Mr. Ridout can thank his friends for furnishing the Recozp with the item of which he complains. ny 8. George Ridout evidently did not accompany Mr. Maikintosh to England as his secretary and vallet and the Rec- oro never said he did, and trusta this any euch intention was notonly dis claimed. but on the otherhand the court wasasked to draw the inference from the affidavits filed that the plaintiff was endeavoring, by resvrting to these pro- ceedings at @ critical etage of the flota- tion of the new enterprise, to compel. the defendants to buy out the plaintif’s Interest at an exorbitant figure. Children Say a Wedding in the Janitor’s Family the Cause, S The school children ‘‘walked up the | hill and then walked down again” this morning, because there was no school in the school house. There* was no school in the school house because there wae no fire in it. The: teachers told: the children to come in the afternoon, when the fires in the furnaces would be going all right. The little children are talking everything, . Thinge” things they do not know, just hke grown up people, so it is out among them that the reason there was no fire in the furnace this morning was because the janilor’s wife’s daughter was married last night Ofcourse the children did not.etop to reason it out, no more than grown peo- ple, that the marrying ofa daughter should not affect the fire. GOOD ISTE COODERHAM Will Not Establish a Departmental Store in Rossland. A COMPANY WAREHOUSE ONLY, This Confirms the Good News Pub- lished in the Record ; Yesterday. The morning paper has published two interviews with the Gooderham-Black- stock people, in which they were quoted as saying that the matter of establishing a department store in Rossland was un- der consideration, and would be finally determined before they left town. This morning that sheet comes out with another interview, stating that neither of them ortheir company had “ever contemplated entering into com- petition with local merchants, and that their operations would. only extend to putting in a supply house for their mines. Although there is two interviews say- ingone thing ane saying another, it ia to be hoped that the minority report is correct. There ia one featura-of the’ interview which would indicate thatthe Miner man never saw Mr, Gooderham, because it quotes him aa_aaying, “I have a busi- ness record of 65 years in Toronto to maintain.” Now the Recorp does ‘not believe Mr. Gooderham will acknowledge an age which would start him in business 65 years ago. i Bat Jet that be.as it may, the Reconn’s story yeaterday to the effect that the de- partment store busineas was ‘‘off” is the “milk in the cocoanut,” and thie paper “they~ know ~and-| ig glad to announce-the confirmation of - it, even from eo dngeliable's“source~aee<: the morning interview.
