Allen Alex Gretchen, 20, of Thrums, pled guilty in court here on Tuesday to a charge of driving with a blood alcchol content over .08, He was fined $200 or in default 30 days in jail. His driver's licence was also sus- pended for 80 days. The offence occurred July 21 at Kinncird. Kenneth Olson, 22, of Castlegar also pled guilty to the same charge. He was also charged on July 21 and was fined $200 or 30 days in jail. His driver's licence was suspended for 30 days. Wendy Rona Court of Blueberry pled guilty to a charge of failing to notify the owner of damage to property. She was fined $25 or in default 10 days in jail. The charge arose out of an incident June 4 at the Hi Arrow Arms in Kinnaird when a car was backed into the side of the hotel. Mrs, Court also pled guilty PROTECT CANADA'S FORESTS to a second charge of driving without a driver's licence and was fined $25 or in default 10 days in jail. ‘Terrance Daniel Kaufman, 26, of Kinnaird pled guilty to a charge of impaired driving. He was fined $200 or in default 30 days in jail. His driver's licence was suspended for 30 days except for driving to and from work, A second charge arose out of the same July 22 incident and Kaufman pled guilty to failing to provide a breath sample. He was fined $150 or in default 30 days in jail. April Dorreen Eldridge, 29, or Rossland, was charged with theft under $200 in a shoplifting incident at West's Store on July 19. She pled guilty and was fined $100 or in default 30 days in jail. Sutherland Assault Charge Waived to Another Judge An assault charge against Donald Sutherland, 58, and his son, Douglas Wayne Suther- land, 20, both of Winlaw was waived to another judge by Judge William Evans, in Nelson provincial court Thursday. The decision was made after Mr. Sutherland's lawyer, Michael Moran, made applica- tion to waive jurisdiction to another judge because Judge Evans had heard an assault charge against Mr. Sutherland three days earlier. The case was adjourned to this Monday ‘at 10:30 a.m. The assault charge was laid by Van Michael Thatcher, 26, of Fort Steele after an incident June 27 at Labahdo Flats, near Winlaw. Municipal clerk Betty Jean,+ Price, in a report filed with council at its meeting last week, noted that only the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Cominco indicated interest in the idea. She said West Kootenay’ Power, Marathon Realty, the Bank of Montreal, Inland Natural Gas, Canada Perma- nent Trust end Central Mort- gage and Housing would not participate. Commented Mayor. Those who want to use it would. still get something.” James Maitland Passes Away in His 88th Year Funeral services were held yeslerday from the chapel of the CasUegar Funeral Home for James McRobbie Maitland, 88, of Kinnaird, who died in Castlegar Hospital on Monday. Rev. Duane Harder offi- ciated. Cremation followed. Born in Scotland on May 11, 1885, Mr. Maitland came ia Canada in the early 1900s. He was employed across Canada in his trades of saddler, carpenter and millwright. In 1948 he moved to Kinnaird and ‘retired from Cominco in 1950. Mr. Maitland lived in Kinnaird until the time of his death, He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch M1, Trail. There were 43 fires caused by the CPR on Sunday and there had been 27 before that. Commenting on Monday's fire, which was located only a quarter of a mile from the Raspberry School, Forest Ran- ger Hugo Wood said “every- thing worked like a million dollars or. we'd have had another Sent.” He was refer- ring to the huge Sentinel Mountain fire in 1967 which was referred to as the Sent - Fire.
