REED : Ym a bit of a collector. I think most everyone is. Be it fon » or hockey cards, or ttles or books... you name It—someone collects it. : . Most of my collecting falls into the category of printed matter. Just this morning, I threw out a whole least; not from Solomon's Pre- verbs. But like so many of Solomon's proverbs, it speaks volumes. It really is frightent produce momentary consterna- tion, but after all, it's just a piece of china or pottery. It's just not the same when life deals a blow, observe the number of pads these days who are coming ‘unglued. This is the age of and ‘bf stuff that, at one point, I decided I wanted to keep but which now turns out to be useless. « But I do have a lot of ures tucked away in clip- pings: magazine articles, illus- trations, sermons, cartogns (I), informative items. and 50, on. Most of it is carefully filed, and provided I can find what I filed ft under, most of it is useful. One of my files is headed, “Multum in Parvum”, though T'm not sure how good my Latin is at this point of time! It's sup] to mean, “Much in Little”. This is a collection of pile pithy quotations which ly pack a punch. Are you ready for a sample? Here it is: “A well used Bible that is falling apart usually belongs toa person who isn't.” No, that didn’t’ come from the book of Proverbs; at -blows;. your part: Anyone who wants to master a few basic principles can hang up his shingle and in no time will find an eager clientelle ... people with deep-seated prob- lems looking for someone who claims to have the answers. Life is full of shattering A partner has be- trayed you; your boss gives the promotion to somebody else; your son or daughter is un- manageable; the transmission in your car breaks down; you lose your job; a tragedy sud- denly strikes. : Sometimes the troubles come singly and you manage to hang in. But sometimes they come in batches, and all at once you can't cope. The world begins to crumble around you; you don’t know how to pick up the pieces .... ‘A dropped dish that shat- ters into a dozen pieces may -Did you ever stop to think that the Bible was intended for just-such times? It may not always give explanations, but it always gives hope. It's full of statements that give meaning to life; that bring light into the darkness; that provide strength in weakness. It throws you back on great words like . comfort, peace, grace, promise, hope—words that are..great with the greatness of God! The Bible can help, you know. When was the last time you tried it? That bottle of aspirin will never help your headache until you open it and swallow one of the little white disks inside. Even so, if you want to find out what the Bible can do for you, you must open it and read it and assimilate -it. If you're coming unglued, try God’s prescription. It's called The Holy Bible! It‘may. , not be too late for you to discover that a well-used Bible that.is falling apart usually belongs to.a person who isn't! - church directory GRACE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 7th Ave., South, Castlegar’ Sunday School 9:45a.m. ST.
