valley Elementary Schoo! Li-
brary, and that's where it all

Darcy's father, Fred Steele
of CKOV radio, happened to
glance through the book while
Dracy had it on loan, and
exploded in anger.

He decided that this par-
ticular verse, and some of the
other material wasn't suitable
for his daughter, or for “that
matter, any other elementary
students,

Instead of contacting the
principal of the school, Steele
decided to voice his objections
in the form of a newscast.

He now plans to take his
complaint to the School Board.

“I don't care what anyone
says,” Steele snapped, “that's
teaching political assassination.
If this sort of thing is floating
around freely, what other
hooks are in ‘the libraries
teaching violence in such
charming little songs.”

over the controversial book.

book been banned from school
libraries in that area.

his complaint hard with the
board, but his criticisms may
fail on-deaf ears, 5

Following Steele's news-
cast, members of the board
read the book in question, but
couldn't find any real problem
with it.

Marj Showler, chairman of
the -board, says, “There are a
few of the phrases I was not too
pleased with, and neither were
the other ‘trustees, but in
general it was acceptable.”

This issue, as well as the
one involving the book banned
last year, “This Perfect Day,”
has spurred the board to find a
clear-cut way of dealing with
such complaints.

Shirley Staley, head of the
group appointed to find a
solution, feels “there is no great
need, but if something comes
up again we'll be prepared,

The committee's proposals
will go to the board at the next
meeting, along with Steele's
verbal attack.

Yehudi Menuhin. Through a

Dear Ann Landers: After 26 years of hard work, my husband sold
our very successful business and retired. 1 worked right along with
him and held down a second job when money was scarce. I am
several years younger than he is but energetic and not ready to sit
in the rocking chair,

What does one do with a retiree who watches the “tube” or
sleeps from9 p.m, to 9 a.m.? On those lucky days when he decides
to go out, he visits his old business friends, who are busy, or sits in
a bookie joint. He has no hobbies, doesn’t even read a newspaper—
just waits for his three meals a day. Sometimes he sleeps sitting
up. 3

If we go out in anafternoon, he is ready to go home by 2:30 so
he can sleep a little before his favorite TV programs begin.
Saturdays and Sundays are murder. He's out of bed by 9:30 a.m.,
then asleep in the chair or stretched out on the sofa by 10:30 a.m.
He hasn't worked or, done one thing around the house in 18
months, He runs to the doctor for “check-ups”, comes home and
says he has a variety of illnesses. I had a private consultation with
his doctor recently and was assured there is nothing wrong with
him.

He watches me garden, cook, clean and keep up with my
hobbies. I even suggested that he work as a volunteer with some
charitable organizations, but that was turned down.e

Don't suggest a trip. I don't have to goto Europe to wateh him
sleep. He has become a terrible bore. There is no conversation
between’ us. Where do I go from here?

Dear Waiting For What? I strongly recommend that you have *

Methuselah checked out by another’ physician. He may have
narcolepsy. This is an illness that causes people to sleep a great
deal. If he gets a clean bill of health, resolve that you are not going
to let him drive you crackers. Investigate the Golden Age Clubs
for retirees in your city and urge him to take a look. Regardless of
what he does, keep active, busy and involved, go places alone or
with women friends if he refuses to accompany.you. Maybe when
he gets tired of being alone and you no longer cater to him he'll
show some signs of life.

Problem: George has stopped taking his medicine. The last time he
