IT WAS ICICLE WEATHER. Happy Was the Man Who Possessed an Overcoat Yesterday. If an Arctic blast had come sweeping down upon Rossland it would not have been much colder than it was last night. Not since the heralders of spring perched upon Rossland’s mountain tops, has it been so cold. Itis a valu- uble piece of information. How would the Le Roi people ever have known that. there wasa smelter site pining away from neglect at Sayward if he had not ‘rode over there’? and discovered the in- fant smelter prodigy? Besides the statement that he “rode over there’ admits of no possible opening for his enemies to speak the calumny that he walked over there. It is so seldom that anyone is seen riding any- where in the vicinity of Rossland that the spectacle must have created con- sternation among the natives in the re- mote quarters of the globe where Say- ward is situated. But the intricacy of the smelter problem might have been le clearer tothe Le Roi company and the people if he had designated what it was he ‘rode over there” on. Itisa serious question whether or not it was a cayuse. But the yellow-l expert did not choose to throw any light upon the subject, and whatever it was that he “rode over there’ on may remain a secret until his dying day. It is prob- ably the key to the situation and he will not divulge the: secret unguardedly. For this Jack Rabbit Reavis is a crafty man and deeper than some people’s wells. Ordinarily the “riding over there’ would have been sufficient investigation of the most complicated smelter ques tion, but the Morning apology has made so many mistakes it was sorry for lately the yellow-l d expert resolved to ‘ia assertions on this time. full. Father Rivers spoke with great effort and _could not subdue his tears as he “‘When Teame here last Saturday I never thought that today I wauld be called to render the last services of the church to the spirit of my life-long friend Father Lemay.”’ After the service the remains were conveyed to the Catholic cemetary.
