Castlegar dominated play led by a four-goal performance from Mike Hunter. Hunter set up Fred Gienger for a power play goal to open scoring at 3:05 of the first period. Benji Koorbatoff teamed with Hunter who gave Castlegar a 2-0 lead after 11 minutes. Gienger scored unassisted at 16:40 and Hunter, with an assist from Ken Skibinski, sent his team into the second period with a 4-0 advantage. Castlegar appeared headed for a complete route of the visitors be- - ‘Trail’s Drazdoff, Harper and Flan- agan combined for their team’s first goal just 29 seconds later but by the 6:19 mark Castlegar had a 9-1 lead on goals by Hunter, Rick Fauth and An- tigna Assists went to Les Stoochnoff, Josh Sookero and Shawn Mosby. But the flood of goals was stemmed as Trail’s goalie toosk charge of his crease area and défence became more effective, Trail got their final goal of the game at 18:53 from Flanagan, un assisted, and the second period ended- 9-2. /Play evened out in the third period with the only goals coming from Lester's Koorbatoff assisted by iln and Sookero from Rick Fauth. Middle row Twin Rivers elementary school cross country runners were out in force taking -first, place in both the Gradé 6 and under boys and girls team three kilometre events at the Can-Am cross country event over the weekend. The run featured 224 cross country runners of all ages from around the province but the U.S. teams which’ were expected to show didn’t. That didn’t stop local runners from placing well in their event. Shawna Harshenin — a Grade 5 student at Twin Rivers — placed first in the girls Grade 6 and under 3K event with a time of 11:11. Record-sized fish caught TORONTO (CP) — A 28-year-old accountant caught a Canadian-record 65-pound muskie that could have been older than he is using equip ment meant for fish half that size, the Toronto Star said Tuesday Ken O'Brien of Toronto caught the fish, 58-inches long with a 30'/z-inch girth, Sunday in Blackstone Harbor on Lake Huron’s Georgian Bay. The catch beat the Canadian record for muskellunge of 61 pounds nine ounces taken in Fagle Lake, near Kenora in northwestern On. tario, in 1940, says Larry Ramsell's Compensium of Muskie Angling History. It was the’ eighth largest muskie caught in the world, the Compen. dium said. The biggest was 69 pounds 15 ounces in 1957 in the St. Lawrence River.
