South Okanagan outshot Castle- gar 27-15 but strong goaltending by Mike Kooznetsoff kept the Pee- Wees in the game. _ Castlegar’s top forward, David Pucci, scored a natural hatrick when he opened the scoring with one in the first, then completed it with two in the second. In their second exhibition road game played at Summerland, Castlegar was beaten 7-2 by the Penticton AAA reps. The opposi- tion outshot Castlegar by a wide margin of 34-10. “We were really flat last week- end in the Okanagan but it was a road tip, and at least the kids had some fun,” said head coach John Horcoff. Despite their .500 outing (1-1- 1), Castlegar pulled together to Trail 8-3 in a home game on Feb. 12. Beaver Valley struck first at the 1:49 mark of the opener, but Castlegar’s-Darren Pottle tied the game at 3:15. Assists went to Craig and David Pucci. Beaver Valley restored their one-goal lead when Ian Power connected with only 16 seconds left in the first. Beaver Valley took a 5-2 lead beading into the third, but Castle- gar rallied for two goals to bring them within one. Although Castlegar held Beaver Valley scoreless during the third, their offence failed to score the tying goal and they went down to defeat by a score of 5-4. “We got off to a poor start but we played decently in the third,” said Horcoff. “We didn’t skate like we can and there were too many players standing around waiting. You just can’t do that when you play Beaver Valley.” In their retum match played at Beaver Valley, an out-numbered Castlegar team managed to steal a Point and tie the game at 2. Craig Swanson, with his first of two, opened the scoring for Castle- gar at 7:05 of the first but Beaver Valley tied the score less than a minute later on a goal by Tyler Oatway.
