Closeup of a Product of Mr. ‘and Mrs. Toni Silva's Rose Garden A Student's Original Story T he Alphabetical Horse A term-end assignment P Winlaw Elementary School in- volved the writing of an ori- ginal story using each letter of the alphabet to start each con- secutive sentence. The following story was submitted by Grade 6 student Marian Kabatoff: ALPHABETISM —By Marian Kabatoff Andy kicked his heels into the horse's side. Blue started to canter along the winding forest path. “Come on, Blue! “Don't you know we have to be home by 6:20!" . Eventually, Blue broke in- to his smooth, easy gallop.” For’2 few minutes they were on the forest path; then, the next moment, they were off. Groggily, ney got up from the ground. * His left leg was broker and he had no way of riding home, which was a mile away. Instantly, Blue came over and sniffed his dear master. Just a three-year-old horse—Blue’s dam was an Ara- bidn, his sire a beautiful, black ” mustang. Doctors Ignoring Antibiotic Hazards Many declare are ignoring as 1970 that its use should be gainst the powerful sntbitc and “In 1975, the American for young children despite risk of serious harm. °« That alarming conclusion came in a research report pub- lished recently by the Journal of the American Medical Asso- ciation. The. report, based on a detailed study of prescriptions written for nearly 59,000 youngsters in Tennessee, found tetracycline being prescribed for thousands of childrei—in some cases by phone—by doc- tors who apparently paid no attention to warnings as early Acad of Pediatrics, which sponsored an extensive study of the harmful effects of tetracycline in ‘children under eight years old, urged a ban on such prescriptions. The new research shows seven per cent of the Tennessee children had received tetra- cycline prescriptions. Many of the 4,026 pre- scriptions ‘were ‘issued ‘to “treat” upper respiratory i infec. “tions and other common viruses for which tetracycline, accord- ing to an editorial in the same AMA journal, has been proven ‘almost completely ineffective. King was his name before Andy bought him asa two-year- old. Liking the name Blue, (since he was a blue roan), he named him thaty Momentarily, Andy called to Blue and said, “Go home Blue, and get mother to follow, “you on Goldie. Hurry now.” Nevertheless, Blue went on to his home. « Opening the door, Mrs. Ni- chols went on a small platform and began hanging the clothes... Prancing, ‘Blue went into the yard where Mrs. Nichols was standing; he started to Blue. a Rearing and prancing side- ways, he tried to tell her Andy was hurt, * “Something's wrong. Bet- ter get Goldie.” Tying down Goldie, ‘she. slipped the snaffle bridle onto the golden head. Using a chair she climbed onto Goldie’s back. Violently, they clambered to where Andy lay. Worried, Mrs. Nichols kicked her heels into Goldie's flanks as she followed Blue. X-rays after X-rays were taken to show that Andy's leg - fe was broken. “You're going to be all right," said Doe Adams, “thanks.to Blue.” “Zowie,” said Andy's younger brother, “can’t wait till ‘ou come home. Blue's doing okay.” s . church directory ST. RITA‘S CATHOLIC CHURCH Rev. W. Harrison Ph, 365-7143 Saturday Night Mass 7 p.m. Sunday Masses at 9 am. and 11 am.
