I ‘quoted it to my congregation a few weeks ago‘and several of hem wanted a copy. Here it is, just in time for Father's Day: My ‘child arrived just the ther day. he came to the world in the usual way. But there ‘were planes to catch and bills to i pay and he learned to walk ‘while I was away, and he learned to talk before I knew it. And as he grew he'd say, “I'm join’ to be like you, Dad; you now I’m goin’ to be like you.” And the cat’s in the cradle ind the silver spoon and the : little boy blue and the man in the moon. “When you comin’ ‘home, Dad?” “I don’t know iwhen—but we'll get together THEN, Son; you know we'll have a good time THEN.” Well, my son turned 10 just the other day. He said, “Thanks for the ball, Dad. Come. on, let's play. Can you teach me to throw?” I said, “Not today, 1 gotta lot to do.” He said, “That's OK.” And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed. It said, “I'm gonna be like him—yea—you know I'm gonna be like him.” And the cat’s in the cradle and the silver spoon and the little boy blue and the man in the moon. “When you comin’ home, Dad?” “I don't know when—but we'll get together THEN, Son, you know we'll have a good time THEN.” Well, he came home from college just the other day:' so much like a man that I just had to say, “Son, I'm proud of you.. Can you sit for awhile? “He shook his head and he said with a smile, “What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the keys. See you later—can I have them, . please?” “When you comin’ home, Son?" “I don't know when—but we'll get together THEN, Dad;' you know we'll’ * have a good time THEN.” Well, ['ve tong since re- tired and my son's moved away. And I called him up just the other day. I sai you if you don't mind.” He said, “I'd love to, Dad, if I can find the time. But you see my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu. It's sure been nice talkin’ to you, Dad; it’s been nice talkin’ to you.” And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me he's grown up just like me—my boy was just like me. And the cat's in the cradle’ and the silver spoon and the little boy. blue and the man in the moon. “When you comin’ home, Dad?" But the price of goods and services is so high in B.C. that the actual buying power of that second highest income level is reduced to below the ‘national average. This has set off something of a debate. It would, said one purist, “threaten the integrity of the game.” The Washington Post panned the ball, arguing that if golf were made easier it would just crowd the golf courses, The Los Angeles Times, on the other hand, argued that “a golf ball that always flies straight would do more to increase the life expectancy, reduce the divorce The big winner of course is Ottawa which skims the top cream off those high incomes, giving almost none of it back to us in the form of basic services, such as transport, which might lower our high costs. ~The Port ted pep Mirror of ‘Self- Hate sinations » both! political and Americans than all the doctors, marriage counsellors and psychiatrists put together.” The Times’ goals, we suspect, are unduly lofty.
