For.Louise, Hebe, Julie, Pat and Mary and the oth
members of the SPCA who work long and hard, ‘the rewards
seem small. The community still mistrusts them to'a large
extent. “Some people think we're a bunch of kooks.” Why
you bother? I asked. “It takes up'so much of my time,” she:
said, rubbing the nose of one of her feline friends, “but i
something I have to do. We all feel that way. You get a
