! On the initiative of the B.C.
Council. for the Family, the
provincial cabinet has proclaim-
ed the month of May Family
Month in B.C.

+ Over the next four weeks,
this column will focus.on the
Family Month theme. The next
three articles being submitted
by, some of my colleagues.

MANY YEARS AGO I
read a little story which has
stuck with me ever since. One
day an eccentric caller knocked
at the door of a.country. home.
‘The lady of the house answered
the knock. Opening the door,
she greeted the stranger cor-
dially.

The visitor politely ack-
nowledged her and immedi-
ately discharged his business
with a question.

“Does Jesus Christ live
here?” he asked.

The startled wife could
think of nothing else to say but
“no” and with that closed the
door. ‘

WHEN HER HUSBAND
came home that evening, she
related her experience.

“Well, surely you told him
that we have a Bible, that we

live a good life, and that we
attend church,” he said.

“But that isn't what he
asked,” she replied. “He asked,
‘Does Jesus Christ live here?’ ”

AND THAT IS THE
question 1 would ask
readers, Does Jesus Christ live
in your home?

A lot of fine things are
being written and said about
the home and family these
days. Slogans like, “Keep | Car-

important.’ But’ slogans alone
will not do the job. Nor will any
amount of pious talk or sancti-
monious sentiment.

THE REAL SECRET IS
to be found in persons, not in
platitudes. A wise man of old
once wrote: “Except the Lord
building the house, they labour
in vain that build it.”

Do you remember that
lovely story from the New
Testament about the marriage
feast at Cana of Galilee? For
me, the most significant phrase
in that whole account is the
statement, . “Jesus also was
invited..."

WE HAD A MOTTO
hanging on the wall of the home
where I grew up. It is still
indelibly inscribed on my mind.

“Christ is the Head of this
home, the unseen Guest at
every meal, the silent Listener
to every conversation.”

1 am certain of this that
there would be fewer spoiled
marriages and broken homes if
from the first moment Jesus
Christ were invited to be
present. Our homes can only be

truly blessed when Christ is

there to bless them.
The success and sweetness

of the home depends to such a ~

large extent on the place which
Jesus Christ is allowed to
occupy init, and the measure in
which He is allowed to mould it.

A HOUSE AT NIGHT
looks gloomy and foreboding.
Put a key in the lock and turn
on the lights, and gloom vanish-
es and the place becomes alive.
Christ is the key that opens the
door to true happiness, and the
light that banishes the gloom of
discord and disillusionment.

Does Jesus Christ live in
your home? It’s never too late
to invite Him.
