The Langham Cultural So-
clety officially opened the sec-
ond and third floors of the
Langham Centre in Kaslo on
June 17.

The upper two floors con-
sist of lease space for crafts
persons’ studios and offices,
community workshop rooms, a
graphics and dark room area
and an arts library lounge.

The main floor, opened a
year ago, houses two galleries
and a small theatre. With the
entire building operable, the
centre will be virtually self-
supporting,

The opening ceremonies
began with a speech from the
president of the Langham Cul-
tural Society, David Seath.
Seath outlined the constitu-
tional objectives of the Lang-
ham Cultural Society as the

centre since the inception of the
plan in 1974,

Dobie acknowledged the
high level of volunteer support,
as well as the government
grants which had enhanced the
feasibility of the project. The
Langham Cultural Soclety was
the recipient of two Local
Initiatives grants in 1975 and
1976, a Recreation Facilities
Funds Grant for Capital Ex-
penses in 1976 and a Canada
Works Grant in 1977.

In recognition of the scope
and quality of the restoration of
the main floor, the Langham
Centre had been awarded both
the Park-Tilford Category "D"
trophy and the Heritage Can-
ada National Prize Award in

continue to exhibit the high
quality work of - artists and
entertainers that has charac-
terized its first year of opera-
tion,

about children and recipes.
Nowadays, the men talk
about real estate and boats,
and women go on and on

teen years old between them.

That's it. Jealousy. [ don’t
have a swimming pool or a
little place — just forty acres,
mind you — in the country.
My wife is as near to nuts as
can be. One kid is a
missionary in Paraguay, the
other can't get a job.

That't why | can’t stand
around with the doctors and
lawyers, cte., and com-
miserate with them on the
fact that the price of steak is
going absolutely out of reach
