ROSSLAND EVENING RECORD, NOVEMBER 17; 1898. ROSSLAND RECORD. BY EBER 0. | CO. SMITH. FUSLIsHED DAILY RXOEPT SUNDAY. ALL COMMUNICATIONS to the Gaitor must ‘pe-ccompanied by the name aud address of the writer, not necessarily 10r _ publics tion, but as evidence of good faith. BUBSCRIPTION RATES. WEEKLY RECORD. ‘Weekly, per half year. ‘Weekly, per year.. Weekly, per year, foreizi subscriptions invariably in Advertising rates will be mad plleation known THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1898. IMPORTANT TO VOTERS. What Must be Done in: Order to be Placed on the Voter's List. Following is the form of declaration city tax collector before being illegible to have your name placed on the voter’s list: DECLARATION. 1, (name in full) do solemnly declare that I am a British subject and of the full age of twenty-one years, that I have been a honsebolder within the, municipal limits of the city of Rogaland for twelve months immediately preced- ing the first day of November, 1898, and that'the dwelling or ‘dwellings occupied by me during that time is or are situate (describing locality so'as to identify the house or houses) on Lot. Block..... Dastrict Lot... in said “DIVIDE YOUR PATRONAGE. Subjects that interest everybody can and ghould be discnased by everybody. The Rossuanp Evenine Recorp is not ao large or good a paper as the citizens of this section would like to have or the management would lke to make it. But it is a business proposition and all or rents, or rent value or values, thereof is not less than sixty dollars per annuin each; and that I have paid all munici- pal rates, taxes, and license fees, (exclu- sive of water rate or water rent) or rates or taxes upon land or improvements, payable by me namely; (here name of rate, tax or fee paid) ‘be enlarged and otherwise imp: only ag i will war- i it to be true, and knowing that it is of the rant. ‘The time is not far distant. when the afternoon dispatches can be had, and then it is to be hoped that the buei- ness men of Rossland will increase their | °*¢ patronage so we cai afford to take them. Itis not generally known, but neverthe- less true, that up to this date there has been no way of getting them. The C. P. B. controls them in Canada, and they cannot be gotten from the Associated Press, and the ©. P. R: has not been in a position to furnish them, but promise, upon the completion of the Crow’s Nest Pass lines to supply them. The Rxcorp is a good local paper. No one denies that since we have resumed charge we have no complaints te make, for our subscription list is growing rap- idly, and our advertising patronage is increasing steadily, for all of which “we express appreciation,, Rossland could not well be without an evening paper. No one should be asked to publish one at a loss. We donot pro- pose to. It is not right for any merchant or business man to give all his patron- age to the’ morning paper ‘because it is laiger, « orin their opinion a better pa- per. Patronage is what makes a paper better. Roseland would not consent to having ‘only one daily paper, and should th@refore be # little more'liberal in the distribution of patronage. It does not make so much difference. who owns or runs tlie papers so ' they give the news andare fair. Think the matter over, business men of Roseland, and do your duty. Weare ready to do ours tothe nll extent ofthe income of the paper. NEW NEWSPAPERS. R. D. Young, proprietor of the Koote- nay Standard, a monthly mining jour- ual published at Nelson, is in town, looking after his New Years’ edition, the principal feature of which will be “Tilustrated Rossland.’ The second number of his paper is out, and isa credit to the owner. John R. Reavis is fo starta weekly paper at Greenwood, instead of a month- ly'in'Rossland. Mr. Reavis is not too bada fellow, and will doubtless give fect as if made under oath and by virtue of the “Canada Evidence Act, 1893,” required to be made and filed with the g Gapital, All Paldup, - ~ SRO Rest = 0s Ue SIR DONALD A. 8MITH. ral Manposa 8 Rosstand.
